Buck Daniels and his mare, Lucy, experience their first-ever mounted shooting run at a RRR clinic. Accompanied by Wildcate Kate and Pal, Lucy has her eye on Pal. Buck Daniels exhibits the patience needed to walk a trot the course, which is translated to his equine partner. Notice that Buck is turning from the waist, he is not jerking or pulling back on the rein as the shot is fired. Buck is composed and shooting to the rear of the horse at approximately a 4 o'clock arm position. Good job!

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

The purpose of our mounted shooting clinic is to introduce folks to the great sport of mounted shooting. We do not teach you to ride horses. Rather, the practice and clinic is designed to expose you to the basics of mounted shooting.

For the beginner we provide: firearm safety training as it relates to mounted shooting, accustoming your horse to gunfire, teaching form and technique, and preparation for competition.

Practices and clinics are held the second Sunday of each month at the Winchester Arena, 9th and Winchester Rd., Winchester, California.

Club members and experienced competitors also utilize these practice sessions to work on various aspects of mounted shooting, for example, barrel work, holstering technique, accuracy and timing.

We have timer equipment and the announcing system operational at these practices.

Stage patterns are set up and changed throughout the day as needed. The atmosphere is relaxed and not intimidating. It is a great way to get started in the exciting sport of Mounted Shooting.

What are the training goals?

Training goals: basic gun skills training as it relates to mounted shooting. Condition horse to gunfire and balloons, dry firing through courses, shooting through courses, coaching and technique training, and preparation for competition.

**Each person and each horse is different and grows at a different pace. All is not achieved in one practice!

What do I need?

In order to compete in Mounted Shooting, you will need good riding and horsemanship skills. You will need a horse, two .45 caliber pistols, and a holster rig.

You can get started practicing with one pistol, until such time as you acquire the second pistol and are ready to compete.

What does it cost?

Practice/clinic:
$30.00 member price; $35 non-members

What is included?

Includes up to 40 rounds of ammunition for use at practice, coaching and mentoring, as well as use of the full size rodeo arena and amenities of the Winchester Arena.

These practice sessions are a great way to meet people and get started!
